FALL IMMINENT
CHINESE CITY OF CHANGSHA SAVAGE FIGHTING IN SUBURBS LONDON, June 18. The Japanese to-day captured Liuyang, Chuchow, and Siangtan, keypoints around Changsha, which is still in Chinese hands, though there is savage fighting in the suburbs and the fall of the city serms imminent, says a Chungking communique. Liuyang is 38 miles east of Changsha and Siangtan is 19 miles south-west of Chuchow on the Canton-Hankow railway, 23 miles below Changsha. Fierce streetfighting is reported in Ningsian, 31 miles west of Changsha. Fighting continues at Liling, 27 miles south-west of Changsha. The Japanese in Honan have captured Chuehshan, leaving the Chinese controlling less than 45 miles of the Peking-Hankow rail.way. Allied forces on the Salween front gained positions 200 yards from the Japanese oosition at Sungshan, where heavy fighting has blocked the Burma road about five miles west of the Salween crossing.
