ALBERTA

Sir,—As the economic procedure of the Alberta Legislature has lately been discussed, perhaps your readers would like to hear from one who once lived there. Morally and in other ways the people of Alberta are much like ourselves. They even gave prohibition a good trial, though afterwards the legislation was revoked and other measures Introduced. They have passed through trying times of loss and hardship that we have known only in a lesser degree and le£s often. Drought .is common and loss of stock common, too. I have seen oats selling at 6d a bushel, wheat at Is 3d, barley at 9d, eggs at 2Jd a dozen, and butter at 6d a pound. They were the most courageous people I have ever seen. They have, however, a climate in some ways unmatched, though very cold at times. During the years I was there I never knew one case of tuberculosis develop,, or of rheumatism, so the climate may have to do with their optimistic, hopeful attitude. —I am, etc., Cromwell, June 15. G. R.
