THE NEED FOR BLOOD DONORS

Sir,—We. have never belonged to that section (may we trust a small one), which is content to confine its war effort to the purchase of a shilling paper flag on street days. Not until recently, however, were we conscious of the utmost need of enormous quantities of human blood to save the lives of our sons, who at times are called upon to face almost certain death or mutilation that we might live and enjoy our freedom. We might ask ourselves who among us is worthy of. this great sacrifice. The following extract from an airgraph (lefthand written of necessity) just received from a wounded soldier is a tribute to all those generous contributors who nobly come forward and do what they are able for the cause, with no thought of publicity or direct reward:— “ I have had a few of those off days recently, but after another very successful operation a couple of days ago I feel a new man. Two pints of blood put into the old system have helped tremendously; and, when I come to think of it, that is a total of eight pints so far, and I understand there are quite a few more to come yet. How much we owe to blood donors for making our great reunion not only possible, but a certainty! I have so much enthusiasm for the future; I have so much in life to live for—no one could possibly have more.” We add our grateful thanks.—We are, etc.. Mother and Dad. Dunedin, June 17. /
