Clause 14, cf the Act says that the occupier of any fenced or unfenced land trespassed on may recover trespass rates amounting in the case of unfenced land to Is for each pig, and in the case of fenced land to 3s for each pig, and if anv pigs, the property of the same owner, trespass on such land within the space of three months after the first trespass, such occupier may recover from the owner thereof in respect of every separate time thev so trespass double the rate previously charged. The occupier of any fenced land in artificial grass or under cultivation may destroy any pigs found trespassing on such land, and in that case must, within 24 hours, send in writing a description of each animal so dc--stroyed to the owner, or if the ownership is unknown to tire nearest police station. If the carcass of any such animal is not claimed within 48 hours after being destroyed. the occupier of the land must bury it. and if he makes default in so doing he renders himself liable to 3 fine not" exceeding £lO. The Act is administered by the local authority in the district, and the sections relating to the destruction of pigs and tire disposal of the carcasses may. by a vote of two-thirds of the members of the local authority, be declared to be not in operation in the district within which the local authority has jurisdiction.
