GREEN ISLAND COUNCIL
RATES FOR CURRENT YEAR A special meeting of the Green Island Borough Council was held last night, and was attended by the Mayor (Mr J. Boomer), Crs L. Burgess, W. Dickinson, T M McAhan, C. McMullan, W. Wynn, F. Gray. R. B. Rennie, W. Inglis, arid T. L. Mason. The town clerk (Mr R. J. K. Gillies) submitted a statement of the estimated receipts and payments, and the rate necessary to give effect to this estimate. This provided for a reduction of 2d in the £ in the general rate. After considerable discussion it was decided that the total rates should remain the same as those of last year (4s 7£d in the £) and that public notice should be given of the council’s intention to strike the following rates for the year 1944-45 (the figures for 1943-44 being given in parenthesis): General rate, 2s 3d (2s Id); hospital rate, 8d (lOd); water rate, 9d (9d); special rate (drainage loans), 11-Jd (lljd); sanitation fee, £2 15s (£2 12s). The following chairmen of committees, nominated by the Mayor, were elected’ Finance, Cr Dickinson; Works, Cr Burgess; Water, Light, and Drainage, Cr McAhan; Reserves and Sanitary, Cr Rennie.
The council decided to support the nomination of Mr W. P. Hartstonge as the representative of the St. Kilda, Green Island, and Mosgiel Boroughs on the Metropolitan Fire Board.
