FOUR MORE VICTIMS CLAIMED (N.Z.P.A. Special Correspondent) LONDON,. June 11. Another four German aircraft have been shot down by the New Zealand Spitfire Squadron over the beach-head. They were Focke-Wulf 190’s anci Messerschrpitt 109’s. They fell to the cannons of Flying Officers F. Transome (Taihape), J. Houlton (Christchurch) A. B. Stead (Dunedin), and H. Patterson (Wairoa). Squadron Leader J. Niven and Warrant Officer H. M Esdaile (of Ohura) both damaged one The New Zealand Spitfire Squadron has now shot clown seven enemy aircraft since “D-Day,” bringing their total destroyed to 73. They were very disappointed yesterday, when they had to draw lots with a Natal and a Belgian squadron to see who would be among the first to use the landing strips in France within the beach-head for refuelling and carrying out extended patrols before returning to England. The luck of the draw went against the New Zealanders. Flying with the Belgian squadron, on loan, is Warrant Officer D. F. Clarke (Moumoukai). He shares m the destruction of a Focke-Wulf 190.
