Mrf James Begg left yesterday morning for Wellington. Mr Mark Silverstone was a passenger for Wellington by the express yesterday morning.

Mr S. H. Saxby, fields officer of the Department of Agriculture, left for the north yesterday on transfer to Wellington. Mr J. F. McDougall, of Dunedin, has been appointed by the Auckland University Council as tutor-organiser of adult education.

Mr Lex. Macdonald left for the north yesterday to take up a position with the National Mortgage and Agency Company at Wellington.

Messrs W. Carson, W. A. Flavell, and J. Jack and G. L. Cross (Southland) went north by the express yesterday, en route to Wellington to attend a meeting of the Coal Mine Owners' Association. The awards of the Emery Scholarship to Iris Cochrane, and the diploma of Land and Mine Surveying to Thomas James Thomson, were approved by the Otago University Council yesterday.

At the annual meeting of the Synod of Otago and Southland, held in First Church yesterday, the Rev. J". C. Loan, of Seacliff, was elected moderator for the ensuing year. The Rev. J. Fordyce, of Enfield, was elected moderator-designate for 1945.

At the monthly meeting of the King Edward Technical College Board of Managers yesterday, Mr G. T. Anderson tendered his resignation as a member of the board, owing to pressure of business. The resignation was accepted and a tribute to Mr Anderson’s attention to the affairs of the college was paid by the chairman (Mr J. J. Marlow).

Sympathy with the widow and relatives of Brigadier P. A. Ardagh, who was a graduate of the Otago Medical School, and died on active service in the Middle East recently, was expressed at the monthly meeting of the Otago University Council yesterday. The council also passed a resolution of sympathy with the parents of Mr J. F. Nash, a senior medical student, who was killed in an accident in Central Otago during the East.er holidays. Master lan Cameron, a pupil of John McGlashan College, left for Wellington yesterday to join his mother and accompany her to the Middle East, where they will be met by Major Clive Cameron prior to settling in Jerusalem. Major Cameron, who was recently mentioned in despatches, is a brother of Messrs W. K., A.C., and S. P. Cameron. He has been appointed to a permanent position as second in command of the Imperial War Graves Commission. lan Cameron was a popular member of the Burns Pipe Band, whose •members made him a presentation on Monday.

Passengers who left for the north by airliner yesterday were Mr Fosbender, Mr W. Jones, Mr D. Cockburn, Mr R. C. Burgess, Mrs L. H. Denniston, and Mr E. C. Stuart Falconer for Wellington, Mr S. M. Wilson, Mr B. L. Catt, Mr W. G. McLeod, and Mrs J. D. Auld for Auckland. Passengers who arrived by the afternoon plane were Mrs M. and Miss D. Browne and Mis A. Allison from Auckland, Miss S. Ronaldson, Mr J. Sawers, Mr H. F. Hills, and Mrs R. Farrar from Wellington, Mr W. G. V. Fernie, Mr A. O. Wilkinson, and Miss P. Shotlander from Christchurch. At a meeting of the trustees of the Dunedin Savings Bank yesterday the following minute was passed: "The trustees of the Dunedin Savings Bank hereby record their very deep regret at the death of their colleague, Mr Henry B. Hart. Mi Hart was appointed a trustee in 1930, and was president of the bank for th-r years ended March 31, 1937 and 1942, when on relinquishing the pres'dential chair, he still remained a member of the board. For a period of 14 years he gave to the business of the bartk his devoted support and unfailing attention. He took a keen interest in the financial matters of the bank, and his vision in these matters set a standard for us all to follow. His fellow-trustees desire to convey to his widow and family their deepest sympathy in their sad loss."
