ADDINGTON MARKET

DECREASE IN ENTRIES (P.A.) CHRISTCHURCH, Apl. 4. Because of the Easter holidays, the weekly Addington sale was held to-day instead of to-morrow. The entries in all sections, except that for store sheep, showed substantial decreases. Fat cattle were in short supply, and last week’s price drop was recovered. There was no change in the prices for fat sheep. The recent prices for pork and bacon were maintained. Store Sheep.—The entry totalled about 14,000, including 3200 lambs. In this section some end-of-season sheep were forward, but competition was keen for all lots, and considering the quality, prices were a little firmer than at recent sales. No Romney ewe lambs were forward, but halfbreds sold well to 255, with medium quality fetching 19s to 23s 4d. Best wether lambs sold to 22s lOd; medium to good, 18s to 19s 7d; and light, 9s 8d to 14s 7d. There was again a strong demand for two-tooths. One line of 189 Romney-Corriedale cross from Southland sold from 43s to 455, and several pens of other open-vvoolled sheep made up to 40s, There was a big yarding of adult sheep. The best of the four-year-olds sold up to 32s 6d, with others ranging from 29s to 31s 6d. Prices wei’e satisfactory for all other classes. •

Fat Sheep.—The entry was about 3000, against 4500 last week. Generally it was not veiKr attractive,- with only a few prime sheep forward. There was a sound demand throughout, without any change in recent prices for all classes. The highest price for wethers was 40s Id and for ewes 31s 7d.

Fat Cattle. —The entry showed a sharp drop to 259, against 569 last week, and it was quite enough for the demand. Prime beef was dearer than a week ago by 20s a head, medium by 10s, and the ordinary class of cow beef by very little. Best steer beef made just on 50s per 1001 b, good to 475, ordinary to 435, and best heifer to 455. Best cow beef made to 41s and medium to 355.

Fat Pigs.—The porker and bacon entry was the smallest for some time, but values showed little change, and last week's prices were fully maintained. The entry of choppers was fairly heavy,*and values were easier by approximately 10s a head.
