BALCLUTHA STOCK SALE

The first of the weekly sales for this season was held yesterday. Both the entry and the attendance of buyers were small. Sheep entries totalled 488 (235 fat sheep and 253 stores). Fat Sheep.—Wethers sold at 23s to 275, extra heavy fat ewes 21s, heavy ewes 18s, freezing ewes 14s to 15s. Store Sheep.—Medium wether lambs sold up to 11s 6d, culls 8s to 9s; one pen of ewe lambs realised 23s 3d. Fat Cattle.—Seven fat cattle were yarded and prices were not quotable. Store Cattle—Thirty-one store cattle were yarded. Two and a-lialf-year bullocks made £8 14s, and smaller sorts £5 16s. Dairy heifers near to profit sold at from £8 to £lO. Pigs. —Sixteen young pigs were penned and suckers sold at 16s to 20s 6d.
