THE RATIONING OF MEAT

Sir, —I can see that the rationing of meat is coming Into operation soon and I want to know why the export of rabbits is not permitted from this country, as it was In the last war. Thousands of rabbits are skinned and dumped. Why is It that they are not used to relieve the need for the rationing of meat? There are members of families In the Homeland and also in our own country, who would once In a while be glad to partake of a good rabbit. Far too much foodstuff is being dumped that could be used to feed the people of our country. It is time the Government took a pull and kept more food in our own country instead of dumping the biggest half of it. Why is it that hundreds of boxes of fish are being dumped back into the ocean? Surely there are plenty of people to buy the fish. I do not know how working men are going to manage to live on half a pound of butter a week. If we are expected just to scrape it on to a lunch it would be so dry that a man would never manage to eat it. I can see what is going to happen if meat is rationed—it is only going to be dumped, too. and not only that, hundreds will be put out of employment and will be walking the streets when there is no need for it, except through the action of the Government.—l am, etc.. Disgusted. •Balclutha, Feb. 7.
