INSPECTION OF BOOKS

STABILISATION PROCEDURE ADEQUATE SAFEGUARDS (P.A.) WELLINGTON, Feb. 9. “There is no danger that the power to inspect the books of business concerns given to the Economic Stabilisation Commission under the recent iegulations will be put into the hands of irresponsible persons.” This was the reply given officially to an inquiry made on this subject to-day. It was also made clear that np one would be given a roving commission as he thought fit, and that the decision to inspect the books of a particular firm would be made by the commission. Moreover, the officer making the investigation would produce a signed authority from the chairman of the commission, Mr B. C. Ashwin, and this authority would have to be shown to the firm concerned before an inspection could begin.
