BRIDGING THE GAP

TIME SPENT IN WAR SERVICE TRAINING OF BUSINESS EXECUTIVES (P.A.) WELLINGTON; Feb. 8. An aspect of rehabilitation work which is considered likely to interest many young men as they return to civil life after war service will be business executive training. The provision of this service will be considered at the first national conference l of the Junior Chambers of Commerce, to be held in March. It is proposed that young men from all sections of commercial life, from the primary and secondary industries, and from the professions should be encouraged to meet regularly in their own centres for group discussions, lectures, and studies. It is felt that young men who have been on war service, or who through special war work have been away from their particular callings for some years, will discover in group studies and discussions a means of shortening the gap in their business experience caused by prolonged absence from work and study. The Junior Chambers of Commerce state that they agree that, in the case of young men who, had had only a few years’ experience in their jobs, the problem of readjustment is obvious, but they believe that intelligent young men can help each other to readjust themselves if a properly-planned educational programme is adopted to cover subjects of .general interest as well as specialised studies.
