SOCIALISM

Sir. —After reading his letter In yesterday’s issue it is quite evident to me that your correspondent, “ Gee Whizz," is a business man and, as such, should keep to his business instead of presumably looking up directories to find Miss Gow’s occupation. At least he should give her a similar chance by signing his own name. I would ask the correspondent if he has himself read Marx. He implies that it is wrong to live in a “ trance where all is peace.” Perhaps If a few more people aimed at that ’’ trance ” there would be no war to-day. But then “ Gee Whizz ” seems to forget that there Is a war when he complains of the scarcity of goods, high prices, etc. As for strikes, if the correspondent read the paper he would see that President Roosevelt has recently been concerned with the recurrence of strikes in America. Nor can that awful "labour crowd” be blamed there I He also states that theory never works out the same as practice. But he overlooks the fact that a new theory should never be turned down without a trial. I would suggest that a little scientific training would not harm our business man. Finally, he states that people s\ould see good In their own nation. But what does he say of the "Labour crowd’’ earlier-in his letter?—l am, etc., Oh, BoyJ Roslyn, February 5.
