THE HOME GUARD
RETURN OF EQUIPMENT SPECIAL PARADES TO BE HELD The area staff officer, Major V. A. Norrish, said yesterday that a start had been made with the calling in of uniforms and equipment on issue to the Home Guard. This follows the announcement made some time ago that the Home Guard is to be placed on reserve. Major Norrish said that during the next few days final parades of Home Guard units would be held in and around Dunedin. These had been called for the purpose of giving guardsmen an opportunity of returning their uniforms and equipment. Later, a receiving depot would be .established m the South Dunedin Town Hall, and uniforms and equipment not handed in at the parades must be taken there. Major Norrish added that in making the arrangements for the return of equipment everything was being done to ensure that as little inconvenience as possible would be caused, particularly in the country areas, where guardsmen were in the middle of their busy season. At the samb time the scheme adopted was expected to assist in the co-ordination of transport and the arrangements for the reception of equipment issued to the large number of men in the area. Notices have also been sent to the owners of impressed .303 rifles requesting them to take possession of the weapons at the Drill Hall, Kensington.
