HOLIDAY AMENITIES
Sir,—l was rather interested in the viewpoint of your correspondent who signed himself “ Sorrowful and Hungry.” He states that “ unfortunately it was necessary for him to attend his office on December 30,” and goes on to complain about the difficulty in obtaining something to eat. It is a shame to think of tlie hardships the poor fellow had to endure after closing his office for the holidays on Christmas Eve to be in such a plight on December 30, Apparently it does not matter about the restaurant staffs, which slog away year in and year out, feeding the multitude, washine other people’s dishes, and generally dancing attendance on them. Perhaps these staffs do not need a rest, or maybe they just do not count. I notice another correspondent’s letter in to-day’s, paper in regard to tourist traffic. This is a subject upon which I have an open mind, but I am aware of the existence of a considerable body of opinion that too much tourist traffic would create a nation of menials. It makes one wonder whether this iS the new ord“r so much talked about, or is it the old story of self first, second, and third, and anything left self again.—l am. etc., The Cftlier Point of View. January 6.
