Also on the two-day programme were an international “ Soccer ” match, in which Egypt beat Britain, and an American baseball match. The South Africans beat the New Zealanders by 12 points to 11 in a match in which there was not a dull moment, and in the last few minutes the New Zealanders were unlucky not to turn defeat into victory. The' South Africans had the advantage in the set scrums and more cohesion among the backs. Each side scored two tries, the New Zealand scorers being Nicholson and Delamere, who were outstanding throughout. Smith converted one try and kicked a penalty goal. South Africa’s other points came from two penalty goals. Dummet, the South African half-back, was the star cf the game, and ranks with the best.
