AUSTRALIAN CASUALTIES

FIFTY-FIVE THOUSAND (Rec. 11.45 p.m.) SYDNEY, Jan. 5. Australian casualties since the beginning of the war now total 55,890. The Minister of the Army, Mr F. M. Forde, announced this to-day. The 1943 casualties totalled 9031, not including prisoners of war, but including many casualties carried over from the Middle East and Far Eastern theatres. The total number of Australians killed is 10,884, wounded 15,332. missing 3779, and prisoners of war 25,895.
