RAID ON KURILES
CATALINA FLYING BOATS USED WASHINGTON. Jan. 14. The Catalina flying boats which bombed Paramushiro, in the Kuriles, 1 also raided the naval base of Kaiota, on Shimushu, across the straits. The returning flyers said they arrived over Paramushiro in darkness, and met erratic flak fire. One Japanese fighter came up to meet the Catalinas. but inflicted no damage. The United Press points out that the raid marked the first occasion the army has sent Catalinas against the Kuriles, which were previously attacked by Mitchells and Liberators.
