FAREWELL TO MR PURCELL

HEALTH CAMP ASSOCIATION Mr and Mrs J. B. Purcell, who are shortly leaving Oamaru to reside in the North Island, were the guests of the North Otago Health Camp Association at morning tea yesterday. Mr Purcell, who has been postmaster in Oamaru for the past few years, is retiring on superannuation. The president of the association (Mr J. T. Calder), who presided, described the guests as two of the best workers for the organisation. He extended to them the association’s best wishes for the future. Others who paid tributes to the retiring postmaster’s service to the community were the Deputy Mayor (Mr A. R Tait), Messrs J. H. Main, L. J. K. Fanulton, and Mesdames H. P. S. Familton and E. A. Fox. In replv, Mr Purcell said that both he and Mrs Purcell had been associated with the Health Camp Movement since its inception. His association with the Oamaru committee had been a happy one. Referring to the excellent work done in the past by members of the North Otago Association, Mr Purcell paid a special tribute to the late Mr Herbert Familton, and iflso to the work of his wife, Mrs Familton. , , The president of the Oamaru Chamber of Commerce (Mr H. S. Stevens) at the meeting of the chamber on Tuesday night., referred to Mr Purcell’s record of service in the town, and especially his work for the chamber. He extended best wishes to Mr and Mrs Purcell. The president s remarks were endorsed by Messrs W. R. Williams, E. D. Watts. M. J. Hanley, and H. C. Jeffery, and Mr Purcell made a suitable reply.
