STERLING OFFICER

ADMIRAL SIR DUDLEY POUND AMERICAN TRIBUTES RUGBY, Oct. 21. A tribute was paid to the memory of Admiral of the Fleet Sir Dudley Pound by Admiral Harold R. Stark, commanding the United States naval forces in Europe. He said: “Admiral Sir Dudley Pound’s passing leaves me with a deep sense of personal loss. Not only had I come to regard him as a warm, personal friend, but also as a great naval officer, with the highest qualities of judgment and leadership. The United Nations will ever owe him a debt of gratitude for his vision and outstanding contribution to our naval effort throughout the world.” •

Admiral King, the Commander-in-Chief of the United States Navy, in a similar tribute said: "Admiral Sir Dudley Pound was a great man and a sterling officer, whose views and counsel were of great weight in the deliberations of the combined chiefs-of-sfaff."
