ST. KILDA COUNCIL

FORTNIGHTLY MEETING The fortnightly meeting of the St. Kilda Borough Council was held last night, and was attended by the Mayor (Mr N. D. Anderson) and Crs G. Glue, T. D. B. Roy, J. C. Cherry, E. Longworth, R. S. Brent, W. Rutherford, A. H. Finnie, D. Telfer, and P J. B. Rendel. The bank balances showed a debit of £197 3s 2d. The council was asked to give an opinion on the question of holding the annual conference of the New Zealand Municipal Association next year, and it was decided to support the holding of the conference.

A letter was received from the secretary of the Otago Hospital Board stating that the borough was required to pay £3163 10s lOd to the board for the year ended March 31, 1944. It was stated that the levy showed a decrease of £341 4s 2d as compared with the previous year. It was reported that 3,953,000 gallons of water had been consumed in the borough in the past fortnight at a cost of £156 9s 6d. The borough inspector reported that he had issued 32 motor drivers’ licences for the fortnight ended August 14, He stated that he had continued his investigations in regard to the eradication of pussy willow trees in the borough.
