DUNEDIN MANUFACTURERS

MONTHLY MEETING OF ASSOCIATION The monthly meeting of the Dunedin Manufacturers’ Association was held yesterday. The president (Mr J. C. H. Somerville) occupied the chair. Mr G. G. Adess briefly reported on the work of the Vocational Guidance Association, on which he is the manufacturers’ representative.—The association decided to give its full support to the continuance of vocational guidance work, and Mr Adess was reappointed as its representative on the Vocational Guidance Committee.

The president stated that the Mayor (Mr A. H. Allen) would call a public meeting at an early date to discuss proposals for the greater development of the Taierl airport to meet the needs of the city in the future. The association intended to be fully represented, Arrangements were made for a visit to Dunedin next week of Mr lan Matheson, of Wellington, who will address a meeting of members on the results of his supply mission overseas. Mr Blackwell Smith, a member of the Lend-lease Commission, will also address the meeting. It was reported that the production of necessary civilian clothing was now regarded as being equally essential to the manufacture of clothing for the army. A letter was received from the controller of salvage (Mr J. B. Lymburn) Indicating the urgent need for salvage reclamation. Consideration was being given, he stated, to the utilisation of materials left over from manufacture for which no immediate use could be found. Manufacturers were being asked to advise the authorities regarding the types of waste material they could use as substitutes for new materials which were In short supply.
