GRAND NATIONAL MEETING

TOWN SURVEY WINS HURDLES BASHFUL LADY AGAIN (OJt.) CHRISTCHURCH, Aug. 15. The Grand National meeting was concluded in fine but cold weather, and a very large attendance viewed the racing. A fall of rain during the early morning made the going a bit on the soft side, but it was still good for the time of Ihe year. Hanover went out to a good lead in the Hunt Cup, and at Cutts% fence Minton dropped his rider, and the horse blocked Donadea, who was going well m third place, and put him out of the race. True Range went after Hanover racing to the far turn, but the latter kept on and won by five lengths. Valens drew up to beat La Boca for third place, and Auctor ran off at the first fence of the kennels double. Foxleap repeated his success of the first day by getting up to beat Hunting Charm in the Sumner Handicap. Highland Dance, Sports Flash, Standby, Chiding, Irish Treasure, and Hunting Charm were the early leaders. Hunting Charm looked a winner in the straight, but Foxleap came with a strong run and beat him in the last few strides. Tring drew up to get tihrd. and then came Kilcato, Alpine, and Irish Treasure. * Second Win for Anglo-French

In the Lincoln Steeples Noko and AngloFrench raced as a bracket on the totalisator, and in the actual race went practically stride for stride out in front nearly all the way. After going a circuit Dozie Boy joined the leaders, but came down when taking off with them at Cutts’s fence. The stable mates led Chat to the kennels double, where Auctor refused. Chat closed up a bit coming round the top, and was handy to the leaders at the last fence. Anglo-French then drew out to win by four lengths from Chat, who beat Noko by three lengths, Gay Boa finishing half a furlong away. Pallid, Valebit, and Park Light led to the straight in the Woolston Handicap, with In Chancery, Nigger Lad, Gayfox, and Cramond Bay handy. Pallid faded in the straight, where Park Light held on and won from Cramond Bay. with Desert Strife, after making up a lot of ground, two lengths away third. In Chancery, Gayfort, Guile, and Pallid were next. Justitia was slow away. Black Musk and Gay Hussar were showing the way in the early stages of the Grand National Hurdles to Hasten and Heidelberg, with Town Survey handy. Treasurer, Rockery, and Nightcalm were following, the last-named jumping badly and losing ground. At the stand hurdle Gay Hussar fell and brought down Khurja. Hasten and Black Musk led along the back, and Talenta was pulled up at the five-furlong post. Coming round the top Black Musk, Hasten, Heidelberg, Rockery and Towm Survey were racing in close order. Black Musk. Hasten, Town Survey, and Heidelberg rose at the last hurdle in company, and then Town Survey took charge and, stalling off Hasten, won by a short length. Young Charles and Good Health both made up a good deal of ground to finish third and fourth, and then came Rockery and Black Musk, well clear of Heidelberg. A Well-merited Success Knight Commander outstayed the opposition in the Spreydon Hurdles. He led Moderate to the last hurdle, with Borak next, but they had no chance with the winner. Norse and Synthetic, after being prominent early, both faded, and Spanish Main finished a moderate fourth. Bashful Lady scored a well-merited wm in the Islington Handicap. Dark Olga shot away to a big lead and showed the way to Paladeo, Scottish Dale, Fairy Bard, Bashful Lady, Kevin, Donnybrook Fair, and Night Pal. Racing round the top half a mile from home Dark Olga was about eight lengths clear from Paladeo. Scottish Dale, Kevin, Donnybrook Fair, and Bashful Lady. They closed on the leader after entering the straight, and then Bashful Lady raced to the front and came on to win by a length from Kevin, who beat Paladeo by a short head. Sing Sing, Palfrey, Fairy Bard, and Dark Olga were next. Boloyna got a bad passage early. The meeting was concluded with Poutautau beating Symbol by a head in the August Handicap, with Lenardo over .a length away third. Sham Boy, Symbol, Arctic Dawn, Lenardo, Hearth, St. Cloud, and Black Robe were the early leaders. In the run home Poutatau wore down Symbol, and Lenardo beat Prudentia for third place. Prudentia finished fast wide out after being well back, and then came St. Cloud and Foxhaven. Kronos was never in the picture as a winner. The totalisator handled £107,908, against £79,064 10s. The total for the meeting was £209,873 10s, compared with £161.757 10s last year. - Following are the results:— HUNT CUP, Of £350. About two miles and a-half. 6/6 —Hanover, 10.6 (A.
