The death has occurred suddenly at Napier of Mr Edwin Salmond, one of the best-known figures in commercial circles in Wellington for many years. Mr Salmond, who was in his sixty-sixth year, was a son of the late Professor William Salmond, of Otago University, and a brother of the late Mr Justice Salmond and of Mr J. L. Salmond. of Dunedin. With Mr Salmond as managing director up to the time of his death, this business was so successful that it was soon established in other centres in New Zealand, as well as in Australia. In 1930 Mr Salmond filled the office of president of the Wellington Chamber of Commerce, and was a member of the executive of the Associated New Zealand Chambers of Commerce. He was also president of the New Zealand Importers’ Federation. In 1911 he married Miss Jessie M. Reid, only daughter of Mr L. G. Reid, S.M., of Wellington.
