FOUND IN DOMAIN
BODY OF- NEW-BORN CHILD
(P.A.) AUCKLAND, Aug. 12. An inquest has been opened by the coroner, Mr F. K. Hunt, into the death of a new-born female child, whose body was found in the Auckland Domain cm July 14. The inquest was adjourned, and no evidence of identity was given. Evidence was given by a message boy that, when he was walking near the duck pond in the domain shortly before 5 o’clock on the evening of July 14, he saw a newspaper parcel. In the parcel he discovered the dead body of a child. Dr Walter Gilmour said the body was that of a new-born female infant, and it had extensive fracturing of the skull. There was a bruise on the neck. He believed it had been dead probably for not more than three days, and that it had died soon after birth. It weighed 51b lOoz. Death was due to a fracture of the skull and cerebral haemorrhage.
