PROGRAMME FOR HOUSE
OUTLINE BY MR FRASER CONCLUSION BY AUGUST 25 (F.0.P.R.) WELLINGTON, Aug. 12. An indication of the remaining business for the session, which is expected to conclude on August 24 or 25, was given by the Prime Minister, Mr Fraser, before the House of Representatives adjourned .to-night. Mr Fraser said that further classes of the estimates would be taken tomorrow. The second reading debate on the Servicemen’s Settlement and Land Sales Bill would be resumed on Wednesday and would continue on Thursday, and, if reasonably long hours were observed, the committee stage should be reached by Friday. Another controversial measure, the Industrial Conciliation and Arbitration Amendment Bill, would follow the Land Sales Bill.
The Leader of the Opposition, Mr S. G. Holland: Both these Bills are to go through? The Prime Minister: That is the intention, unless good reason is shown why they should not. Mr Holland: Good reasons have been shown. The Prime Minister added that there was no possibility of the House finishing in the coming week. He expected that it would rise on August 24 or 25. The measures still to be introduced were the Social Security Amendment Bill and the War Pensions Bill, neither of which he expected would prove controversial.
