PROPERTY LEGISLATION
Sir.—One good thing Hitler has done has been to .give the British people a true sense of values. British freedom has always meant a lot, but dictators prove that it is also worth dying for. But why should the Allied Nations fight for and retain their freedom, while New Zealand submits to the Labour Government? We all know 1 what its party did in- the last war, and its every action has proved that it is just another version of the thing all decent people are trying to stamp out. If. the people of New Zealand let the Government swing this property legislation across, they will be unworthy of me British Empire and the men who are sacrificing everything to keep our freedom for us. It is no use pretending it is a war measure. It will just be another mess, like the egg market, the honey, and fish markets, and the. shortages of everything under toe sun due chiefly to bungling. A If the Government wants to grab all, and succeeds, what is there left in life for the people? If the people are content to live like vegetables, they will probably submit, but anyone who feels an individual and personal responsibility to God to make the very best job of life, will never be happy as a cog in the State wheel, content to let other people think and order all life. It would be demoralising. Authorities advocate bigger families, but with freedom gone what would there be in life for the children? I would like to see a public meeting over this latest injustice, and I know which way I am going to vote in September.—l am, etc., Antl-communist-Labour.
Sir,—Your recent excellent leading article containing as it did sound, enlightening and positive arguments exposing the revolutionary features of the Servicemen’s Settlement Bill will be approved of by all far-seeing people who realise what they will lead to in the nature of extreme State Socialistic and Communistic land settlement. The subtle way in which the Bill has been framed reminds one of the story told of the foolish farmer who thought that by painting shavings green he would deceive his cow to eat them as grass. This dangerous legislation, because of its ultimate operating consequences, will bring about the opposition of all serious-minded electors so strongly that the present Government will be defeated at the approaching general election.—l am,etc., Anti-Communism.
