SCHOOLS’ RUGBY
OTAGO HIGH BEATS KING’S
On a heavy and rain-soaked ground Otago Boys’ High School defeated King’s High School by nine points to nil in the annual Rugby football, match played at Littlebourne yesterday. The conditions made accurate handling of the ball nearly impossible, and the play was largely confined to a struggle between two strong packs. The heavier Otago forwards showed more cohesion and held the advantage for the greater part of the game, although King’s showed up in some lively rushes. E. P. Lovett, R. D. Fraser, and A. J. Patterson were the pick of the Otago pack, and the half-back, P. McKellar, played a serviceable game, adapting himself admirably to the conditions. W. Taylor led the King’s forwards capably, and M. Cunliffe and R. G. Stockwell gave good support. F. B. McKenzie (first fiveeighths) did valuable saving work, and W. A. Russell was a dependable full-back. B. Duncan kicked two penalty goals for Otago and E. P. Lovett scored a try. Mr J. Westland was the referee.
WIN FOR ST. ANDREWS
The annual match between St. Andrew’s College (Christchurch) and McGlashan College, played yesterday at Bishopscourt, resulted in a win for St. Andrew’s by nine points to nil. The forwards were fairly well matched, but the heavier St. Andrew’s pack held a ! slight advantage, and the backs showed superior combination. Rutherford and Forsyth scored tries for St. Andrew’s and Campbell kicked a penalty goal. Mr W. Baxter was the referee.
