CRICKET IN ENGLAND
NEW ZEALAND SERVICE TEAM (N.Z.PA.. Special Correspondent)
LONDON, May 9. The New Zealand service cricket team beat South Hampstead by five wickets and 91 runs. New Zealand scored 223 for five wickets —Flight Lieutenant R. Caiter (Wellington) 84 not out. Lieutenant C. b. Dempster 65, Pilot Officer G. R. Rfbone (Wellington) 30. Sapper P. Gilbert (West Coast) 28. South Hampstead scored 132, Dempster catching the last man off the last ball of the game from Corporal N Parkes (Auckland). Other members of the team were Cadet Ratings R. Metcalfe and R. Bourke (Wellington), Pilot Officers R M. Clarke (Hamilton), A. V. Rodgers (Palmerston North), Sapper R. McLeod (Auckland), and Flying Officer E. Grant (Gisborne). . The New Zealanders will play the Australians on August 14. The Rugby season begins on September 18, when the South Islanders will meet the North Islanders.
