WOOLCOTT FORBES CASE
ACCUSED REFUSED BAIL (Rec. 10.15 p.m.) SYDNEY, Aug. 10. Saying that he was not satisfied that John Woolcott Forbes would not again try to escape if given the opportunity, Mr Justice Street in the Supreme Court to-day refused to grant him bail. Forbes, a former company director and manager, was brought back to Sydney from abroad last week under police escort. He then make an impassioned plea for bail, which was refused. He was remanded until September 1 on 31 charges. The Crown Prosecutor, tracing Forbes’s history, outlined his absconding from bail in Bombay, and his arrest in Mexico three years and a-half later while he was travelling under another name and with a false passport.
