MIDDLEMARCH
Frosty Weather.—For several nights following the recent heavy snowfall, frosts up to 34 degrees were registered, and with the exception of feeding and attending to stock, all farm work was suspended. Most fanners were fortunate enough to have sufficient feed for their stock. Skating and toboganning have been the popular sports with the young people for the past fortnight. Personal.—Mr and Mrs H. Tisdall have received advice that their son, Driver Stanley Tisdall, who left New Zealand with the third echelon, has returned home on furlough. He took part in the Greece and Crete campaigns and was taken prisoner in Crete. After two weeks in a prison camp lie escaped, but was recaptured, and spent another four weeks as a prisoner. He escaped again, and finally reached Egypt in an open boat, the trip occupying 16 days. Driver Tisdall was missing in all for 13 months. —Mr and Mrs A. Dick, who have resided in Middlemarch for the past eight years, have left the district to take up residence in Dunedin.
