Messrs W. Lee, John Andrew, John Elliot, R. McCaw, and A. C. Cameron will leave to-day for Wellington to attend the annual Dominion conference of the New Zealand Farmers’ Union.
Passengers who arrived from the north bv the afternoon plane yesterday were Mr K. W. McLellan and Mr J. W, Murphy from Auckland, Mr L. C. Hazlett, Mrs Thorpe, Mr F. Cunningham, Ensign Johnson and Mr F. Clark from Wellington.
The Management Committee of the Otago Rugby Football Union, at its meeting last night, decided to send letters of congratulation to Squadron Leader G. D. Sise, D.F.C., and Warrant Officer (II) F. J. Muir, of the Pirates Club, on being awarded the D.S.O. and M.M. respectively, and a similar letter to Lance-corporal J. P. Scanlan, of the Dunedin Club, on being awarded the M.M.
The president (Mr W. J. Pearson), at a meeting of the Management Committee of the Otago Rugby Football Union last night, expressed the regret of members at the loss the game had suffered by the deaths of Mr W. Baird and Lance-corporal N. S. Bathgate. Mr Baird was a supporter of Rugby in Southland from his playing days until his death, and Lancecorporal Bathgate, who was accidentally killed while serving overseas, was a Pirates and Otago representative player. Motions of sympathy were passed.
