The city organist. Dr V. E. Galway, gave an after-church recital in the Town Hall last night. Items of special interest were Bach’s brilliant Fantasia and Fugue in G minor. Two compositions which were played for the first time at these recitals were " Variations on an Original Theme ” (Hesse) and " Idylle ” (Rheinberger). Other items presented were:— ’’-Evening Song’’ (Bairstow), “ Humoreske ” (Dvorak), and Wagner’s Finale to ’’ The Rheingold.” Dr Galway was assisted by Miss Claire Neale, who played the second and third Movements of SaintSaens’s Concerto in G minor, the orchestral accompaniment being played on the organ. • ■ ___
