Acceptances for the Ashburton meeting are due to-day. Desmond’s Pride is in the first trotters race at Ashburton. At his only previous start the brother to Certissimus finished second in the New Zealand Trotting Stakes. The big grass track should suit the colt, and he will be favourite if he Integrity, who is owned and trained by V. Leeming, has won £1420 in stakes this season Integrity has now reached a 4min 32sec mark for two miles, and will therefore be suitably placed for August events. He is certain to be one of the favourites, if only because of the great race he put up when running Pacing Power to a short head over two miles at Addington In March. The New Zealand Metropolitan Trotting Club will hold a race for four-year-old trotters at its August meeting. The stake will be £650, and the distance' one mile and a-half. Winners of one or more races during the present season will be penalised 24 yards, and any horse that runs second during the same period will be penalised 12 yards. No horse will be penalised more than 24 yards. Among the horses eligible are Fantom, winner of the New Zealand Trotting Stakes, Desmed’s Pride, runner-up to Fantom, Indian Arrow, winner of two handicap races at Hawera, Forewarned, which has scored two firsts, a second, and a third in the last three months, Believe Me, and Rerewaka. There will also be a race for four-year-old pacers for a stake of £650, to be run'under the same conditions, and one for three-year-olds of £650.
