DESTRUCTION, OF RECORDS
STEEL COMPANY CHARGED (Rec. 5 p.m.) NEW YORK, May 28. A Federal grand jury has indicted the Carnegie Illinois Steel Company for concealing and destroying vital records. The proceedings are connected with Government charges that the company delivered inferior steel from the Irvin plant. The indictment accused the company cf destroying “ control test reports ” showing the results of tests made by the company at the order of the Government. The Government has charged the company with faking tests of steel shipplates in order to make them appear to conform with the rigid Government specifications. The indictment said, that the alleged destruction of the records occurred on the night of March 17.
