HUNTING THE U-BOATS
PATROLS BY HELICOPTERS
NEW YORK, Apl. 21. Ship-based helicopters may patrol the 500-mile gap in mid-Atlantic where the U-boats are taking the heaviest toll. Revealing this, the Navy Department explained that the gap thus far could not be patrolled from British or American shores, Helicopters, however, could be used, because they could take off from the deck of a merchantman, hover in mid-air over a submarine, and easily follow its evolutions. ,
