AUSTRALIAN MINERS
DELEGATE’S VISIT TO NEW ZEALAND (P.A.) AUCKLAND, Apl. 19. A prominent Australian trade union official, Mr Idris Williams, has arrived in Auckland on a visit to the Dominion. He is president of the Victorian Miners’ Union, and while in the Dominion he will represent the Australian Miners’ Federation at the forthcoming conference of the United Mine Workers of New Zealand. Mr Williams said he hoped to study industrial relations between the two countries. He said the majority of the miners in Australia had contributed splendidly to the war effort by their coal production, and the output of the Queensland and Victorian workers had been outstanding. Most of the troubles in the industry had occurred in New South Wales, and there was reason to believe that many of them had a political background.
