SOCIETY OF WOMEN MUSICIANS
At the annual meeting of the Society of Women Musicians, Miss Meda Paine, the president, welcomed Mrs Macandrew, of Auckland, better known to an older generation as Jenny West, formerly a prominent member in musical circles in Dunedin. Reference was made by Misses B. Barth and I. White to the loss the musical community had suffered in the death of two valued members, Miss Bessie Favell and Miss Marion Jeffery. During the evening Mrs Woolman, whose accompaniments were played by Miss M. McAdam, contributed a group of songs by Brahms, and Miss Mary Frazer the pianoforte sonata, Op. 109, by Beethoven. Miss Emily Logie thanked Miss Paine, the retiring president, for directing the society successfully through two difficult years of war, and presented her with flowers. Mrs L. Beaumont was elected president for the ensuing year. The vicepresidents elected were Misses R. Moore, M. McAdam, J. Armstrong, and the committee is composed of Mesdames Titchener, Woolman, Muir, Duthle, Misses M. Paine, F, Sumner, R. McGarrigle, and B. Paine. The retiring members of committee, Mrs Campbell and Misses B. Barth and M. Martin, were thanked for their many years of service to the society.
