WELFARE OF WOMEN AND CHILDREN

At the monthly meeting of the Society for the Protection of Women and Children there were present Miss Runciman (in the chair), Dr McKinnon, Mesdames Todd, Aslin, Downing, Park, Cruickshank, Captain Dickinson, and the secretary (Miss Coe-Smith). The secretary’s report was read and discussed. It included reference to cases dealing with the question of the economic independence of women, and to cases in which husbands, while content to pay the bills, refused to allow their wives to handle any ready money. This practice was considered both unfair and humiliating. Reference was made to the anomalies existing in the Social Security Act.
