PALMERSTON STOCK SALE
The stock sale at Palmerston yesterday attracted an entry of 6500 sheep. Buyers were present from North Otago, Canterbury, and southern districts. Competition was keen, particularly for breeding ewes, while lambs were also in demand. Some exceptionally good young Corriedale ewes were offered, and annual drafts were in better condition than usual. Vendors appeared to be satisfied with values, which in some cases showed a substantial rise on last year’s rates. The range of prices was as follows: Extra good four-tooth Corriedale ewes. 31s- extra good two-tooth Corriedale ewes. 30s 8d; small two-tooth ewes, 19s; fine crossbred four, six, and eight-tooth ewes. 27s 6d; good fine crossbred s.m. ewes. 20s to 21s 2d; good s.m. halfbred ewes, 18s to 19s; full and failing-mouth ewes. 11s 9d to 15s; old ewes, 7s to 8s 6d; good fine crossbred ewe lambs, 22s to 24s 6d: medium ewe lambs. 17s 6d to 20s; small ewe lambs, 14s; fat and forward wether lambs, to 20s 9d; forward wether lambs. 16s 4d to 17s 7d; average wether lambs, 14s to 15s sd; culls, from 7s 6d upwards.
