NAVY LEAGUE
MONTHLY MEETING The monthly meeting of the executive of the Navy League (Otago branch) was held on Wednesday, the president, Mr J. Sutherland Ross, being in the chair. In his report on the activities of the Sea Cadet Corps for the month, Commander Fraser stated that 30 cadets and three officers had rceently spent a weekend on board the Waireka doing seamanship and boat work. Through the generosity of Mrs Edmond, who had made a donation of £5, all expenses had been paid. The division had been inspected by Lieutenant-commander Swanson, who afterwards gave a talk on the work of the mine recovery section in England. Twenty-five cadets had now qualified for their half-mile swimming certificate A donation of £SO had been received from the Dunedin City Corporation. Mrs Ross, reporting on the work of the Women’s Auxiliary, stated that a large number of comforts had been received and despatched, and the monthly quota had been sent to Wellington. Fifty-throe pounds of wool was spun by the Spinning Circle during February. Letters of thanxs had been received from men on minesweepers and at coastal stations who have received parcels from the Otago barnch. Mr L. Millar was appointed secretary of the branch.
