SITTING OF APPEAL COMMITTEE Appeals against the direction Of the district man-power officer (Mr E. A. Selman) were heard yesterday by the Industrial Man-power Appeal Committee. The chair, man, Mr M. W. Grantham, presided, and associated with him were Messrs S D. Macpherson and H. H. Gillard. An appeal by J. S. Stewart against direction from his present employment with the Wilson Malt Extract Company to the Otago Iron Rolling Mills, Green island, was adjourned. An appeal by Miss Patricia Claire McCracken against direction from her present employment with A. and T. Inglis, Ltd., to the Ford Motor Company, Ltd., Lower Hutt, was allowed. The appellant stated that she had made application to join the W.A.A.C., but at her own request it had been held up until after £&stcr> In support of an appeal by Edith Sutherland against direction from her present employment at Woolworths, Ltd., to the Ford Motor Company, Ltd., Lower Hutt, it was stated that three of the appellant’s brothers were serving with the forces, all having volunteered, and one had returned from overseas. The appellant, who was living at .home, was an only daughter.—The assistant man-power officer (Mr C. J. Lloyd) said that the work at Lower Hutt was congenial and the housing conditions were very fine indeed. The charge for board was 25s a week, and the wages were £4 6s a week for a week of 472 horus.—Decision was reserved. An appeal by Ivy C. Pauley against direction to the Ford Motor Company, Ltd., Lower Hutt, was allowed, the appellant to be directed to essential work. Decision in the case of William Henderson, who appealed against the refusal of permission to terminate employment with Cadbury Fry Hudson, Ltd., was reserved. The following reserved decisions were given The committee disallowed the appeal by. J. R. Brown, Ltd., against the direction of Mrs I. L. Pratt to employment at the Mosgiel Woollen Mills, the employee to start at the mills on Monday, April 5. The appeal of J. R. Graham against refusal of permission to terminate his employment with the New Zealand Railways Department at Hillside was disallowed. The appeals of Albert Charles Smith against refusal of permission to terminate his employment with the New Zealand Refrigerating Company, Ltd., at Burnside, and of Miss Edna May Cullen against her direction from the Peter Pan Frock Shop to the employ of D. H. Blackie, Ltd., in the capacity of machinist, were allowed on medical grounds.
