BURMA CAMPAIGN

ENEMY COASTAL CRAFT SUNK WIDESPREAD R.A.F. RAIDS RUGBY, Jan. 26. An Indian war communique states: “No change is reported from the Arakan front. On the night of January 24 a Royal Indian Navy ship on patrol in the Mayu River was rammed by a heavy camouflaged coastal craft which was full of Japanese troops. The navy vessel opened fire and backed away, and then proceeded to ram and sink the enemy ship. The Japanese casualties were at least 50. Ours were two officers wounded. “On January 25 R.A.F. Hurricanes made a highly successful low-level attack on enemy motor transport along the Faungup-Padaung road in Southwest Burma. Ten military lorries and a staff car were destroyed and many others damaged. A considerable number of Japanese soldiers were killed or wounded.

" Fighter-bombers raided Schwebo aerodrome and other targets in that district, and Hudson bombers on offensive patrol damaged shipping along the Arakan coast. Last night longrange bombers attacked Schwebo aerodrome. All the bombs were seen to burst in the target area. From these and other operations none of our planes is missing.”
