MUSTANG SQUADRON

THREE NEW ZEALANDERS INCLUDED * (N.Z.P.A. Special Correspondent) (Rec. 8.30 p.m.) LONDON, Jan. 26. Three New Zealanders in a Mustang squadron are Flying Officers J. G. Thomson (Manakau), I. Dayman, and S. T. Thomson (Wellington). Flying Officer Thomson recently accompanied Mitchell bombers in a raid on an oil refinery. He was flying so low that a German who was firing from a sand dune hit the top of his wing, but no harm was done, the bullet ricochetting. Thomson was travelling at over 400 miles an hour after diving at gun positions. He met no opposition during the remainder of the flight to the target, but got in a “ quick squirt ” at a Focke-Wulf 190 which dived out of his way.
