BRIGADIER N. W. McD. WEIR

A notice in the Gazette states that Major-general N. W. McD. Weir, C.8.E., N.Z.S.C., has relinquished the temporary rank of major-general on being seconded to the 2nd New Zealand Expeditionary Force. A further notice announces his appointment, with the rank of brigadier, to the staff of a reinforcement draft.

Brigadier Weir has' recently been in command of a home defence division in the Central Military District. He was officer commanding the Northern Military District from before the war until succeeded by Majorgeneral P. H. Bell, D. 5.0., N.Z.S.C.. towards the end of 1940. He then left to take command'of the Central Military District. Brigadier Weir served on Gallipoli in the last war, and later filled various appointments in New. Zealand. He commanded the New Zealand contingent which attended the coronation of King George VI.
