Mr Edgar Williams returned > to Christchurch yesterday. Mr R. V. Pike left for Christchurch yesterday. Mr A. H. Fisher was a passenger for Timaru by the through express yesterday. Word has been received from the Middle East that Sergeant G. A. Hellyer is now serving as a warrant officer, second class. The No. 1 Armed Forces Appeal Board, which, it was announced, would leave for Central Otago on Monday next,, will now not leave until Monday, February 8, and will return to Dunedin on the following Friday. The No. 2 Armed Forces Appeal Board —Messrs J. R. Bartholomew (chairman), J. Price, and H. Hodgson —will sit at Balclutha to-day and tomorrow. The board will hold sittings in Oamaru for one week, commencing on February 8. Mr A. N. Haggitt will represent the Crown at all the sittings.

Passengers who left for the north by the airliner yesterday were Miss M. Belcher, Miss M. Bay, Mr R. Ballantyne, Mr N. S. Strachan, and Miss A. Gunn for Christchurch, Miss C. Newman. Miss A. Watson, Mr F. E. Newall, and Mr K. Burrows for Wellington. Passengers who arrived by the afternoon plane were Mrs J. Aldridge from Auckland, Master Hooker. Miss N. Hayward, and Mrs W R. Haywood from Wellington, and Mr A. J. Pascoe from Christchurch
