ENTRANTS TO DUNTROON COLLEGE

TEN NEW ZEALANDERS

(P.A.) WELLINGTON, Jan. 27. After undergoing a course at an army school of instruction at Trentham, 10 young men have been selected as the 1943 entrants to the Royal Military College at Duntroon, Australia. The Minister of Defence, Mr F. Jones, announced to-day that applications had been received from all parts of New Zealand, and were considered by the district commandants of the three military districts. Those who came up to the required standard then went before a special selection board. The following were the chosen candidates: Richard Stanley Harris, Nelson; educated at Nelson College.

lan James Hellyer, Havelock North; educated at the Napier Boys’ High School.

Peter William Frank Joplin, Wellington; educated at Wellington College, and the holder of the bronze medallion and two bars in life-saving.

Joseph Stewart Manning, Christchurch; educated at St. Bede’s College. Stanley Redvers McEkon, New Plymouth; educated at the New Plymouth Boys’ High School. Bruce Poananga, Tikitikiorangi, Ruatoria; educated at - the Palmerston North Boys’ High School, and the first member of the Maori race to be selected to enter Duntroon, He is at present serving in the Royal New Zealand Air Force.

Ralph Kenneth Grey Porter, Auckland; educated at the Auckland Grammar School, and holds the bronze medallion in life-saving.

William Alexander Simpson, Wellington; educated at the Wanganui Technical College, and holds commissioned rank in the Territorial Force.

Maxwell Tebut, Whangarei; educated at the Whangarei High School.
