INCREASE IN BEEF VALUES SHEEP PRICES REMAIN FIRM The principal feature at the Burnside stock sale yesterday was the sharp advance in values for fat bullocks. Prime wethers and young ewes were in keen demand, and prices remained firm. Values for baconers and porkers receded to the extent of 5s a head, due to the exceptionally heavy yarding. Fat Cattle. —There was a small entry, the offering numbering 214 head. On account of the short supply, there was a sharp rise in values for fat bullocks. Heifers also met a fair demand, but cows were slow of sale throughout the market. Fat bullocks showed a rise in value of fully 30s per head. Quotations: Prime heavy bullocks, to £22 2s 6d; prime, from £l7 12s 6d to £l9 12s 6d; medium, from £l4 2s 6d to £l6 17s 6d; light, down to £lO 17s 6d; extra prime heifers, to £l3 2s 6d; medium, from £8 2s 6d to £9 12s 6d; light, down to £5 17s 6d; extra prime cows, to £l2 17s 6d; prime, from £7 2s 6d to £9 2s 6d; medium, from £5 12s 6d to £7 2s 6d; light, down to £4 7s 6d. Fat Sheep.—The entry of fat sheep numbered 1550. This comprised only a smail percentage of wethers and a few consignments of choice, young, good-quality ewes, but the bulk of the offering was made up of medium ewes and several •lines of freezing descriptions.
