Bruce Scottish Society.—The first social for 1943 of the Bruce Scottish Society was held on Thursday night. In his opening address, the chief, Mr J. Campbell, stated that they were celebrating the anniversary of Robert Burns, Scotland’s national poet. Items were presented by Mh'iTS Doreen Smith and Jean Paterson, Messrs J. Clemenger and D. Stewart (songs), Miss Alva Warnoch (Highland dances), Miss G. Smith (pianoforte solo), Miss Betty Taylor (recitations), Mrs J. McKinney (Scottish stories), and Misses M. Allison and L. Allan (bagpipe selections). At the conclusion of the concert a vote of thanks to the performers was passed on the motion of the junior chieftain (Mr R. Burleigh). Supper was served, and dancing occupied the remainder of the evening. Music was supplied by Miss May Moffit, Mr W. Taylor, and Piper C. McGrouther. Messrs J. Campbell, U. Walker, and R. Burleigh were the M.C.’s. 1 Dance Entertainment. —There was again an excellent attendance at a dance in St. John’s Hall on Saturday night. Music was supplied by the Ambassadors’ Dance Band, and Mr Ron Coutts made an efficient M.C. A novelty dance was won by Private R. Cuff and Miss M. Gibb.
