A BRAWL AT BONDI
HUNDREDS OF PEOPLE INVOLVED . SYDNEY, Dec. 29,
Sixteen civilians and 15 soldiers were arrested after a brawl at Bondi which lasted an hour, and involved nearly 2000 people, as well as a considerable number of military and civilian police. When military police attempted to arrest three soldiers on charges of desertion, civilians interferred. The police state that there Were at least 50 separate fights at one stage. One man who was arrested had almost every piece of clothing torn from his body, and he was placed in a military truck wearing only his shoes and socks. A number of people were treated for minor injuries. Peak traffic in the popular seaside suburb was held up for an hour.
